New 2-Part Tutorial Shows How to Recreate Finn From the Arcane TV Show

Brad Myers showcased a great 3D sculpt of Finn and demonstrated the working process behind it.

Among the entire cast of the renowned TV series Arcane, the character with perhaps the most memorable design is Finn, whose tattoos and a mechanical jaw helped the character stand out and leave a lasting impression on viewers, despite his limited screen time in the actual show.

Brad Myers, an experienced and versatile Lead 3D Character Artist known for both stylized and realistic character models, has recently paid tribute to the boss of the Slickjaws, showcasing a detailed 3D model of Finn's head that looks nigh-indistinguishable from the original model, even though the artist didn't prioritize making the sculpt a 1-to-1 recreation.

To set up the character, Brad utilized ZBrush for sculpting, low poly modeling, UVs, and polypaint, Substance 3D Painter for baking and texture authoring, and Blender for stylized rendering, as well as Dragoneex's Stylzied Shaders add-on.

"It was important for me to approach this more sculpturally than painterly because I wanted it to hold up in lighting with movement," the author noted. "So I tried to minimally paint lighting in with this. I also didn't try to make this 1-to-1 with what they did on the show but also maintaining likeness. Very much this is an exercise with speed so certainly took some pretty big shortcuts with specific details (like with some of the tattoos)."

The character's hairstyle, Brad added, was made using the method showcased in Lightning Boy Studio's tutorial on creating Arcane-style hair:

What's more, the entire working process behind Brad's 3D take on Finn, is available as a free two-part tutorial, which you can watch below:
