New DOOM Game's Official Title Revealed, Set for Xbox Showcase Debut

The curtain is finally set to lift on this long-rumored new title.

As we approach this year's Xbox Games Showcase set for June 9, more details are coming to light. Rumors have been swirling about the next game in the Doom franchise, previously known as "Doom Year Zero". Now, it's confirmed that the game is set to make its debut at the event.

Tom Henderson of Insider Gaming reported that the game is believed to have the final name of "DOOM: The Dark Ages." It has been under development for at least four years and is described as a "medieval inspired doom world."

Henderson speculates on the potential direction of the new game, stating:

“While that doesn’t necessarily give much information to go on, ‘year zero’, ‘the dark ages’, and ‘medieval inspired’ starts to paint a vivid picture of where the series could be going next. Perhaps we’ll be taking more of an early look at the Doomslayer’s life during the medieval times? A prequel of sorts?”

Last September, leaked documents from the FTC vs. Microsoft trial suggested that Bethesda and id Software were developing a new Doom game, Doom Year Zero, for 2023 and 2024, hinting at its potential release on PS5 and Switch. Further stoking anticipation, ZeniMax, Bethesda's parent company, had trademarked the iconic DOOM cheat code, IDKFA, suggesting a forthcoming new game announcement.

This news follows last week's announcement from Xbox, confirming the global premiere of Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 at the event on June 9. With each new revelation, there's even more reason to keep our eyes peeled for the upcoming Xbox showcase.
