Games Workshop is working on an animated series based on the legendary Warhammer 40,000 franchise. The series is called Angels of Death and it’s the first officially licensed series of its kind.
“We’re bringing the grim darkness of the far future to life like never before,” Games Workshop stated on its official community blog. “Get ready for epic battle, heroic sacrifice, loads of explosions, brutal close-combat chainsword duels, and some pathos-laden dialogue that’ll fill your belly with fire and stretch your heart strings to breaking.”
Angels of Death will tell the story of a group of red-armored Blood Angels Space Marines. The script is said to be curated by one of the many authors who works on the Games Workshop’s Black Library series of genre fiction books.
Richard Boylan, a cinematic designer at Electronic Arts and the man behind the live-action short film Guardsman, is also involved.
“I’m pretty limited in what I can say, other than myself and Boman Modine, the producer/writer of Guardsman were approached to create an animated series,” Boylan told Polygon. “It’s basically going to be like my Helsreach series only with full Games Workshop support and an actual budget, which is awesome on their part!”
The series will be available on the Warhammer TV channel on YouTube in 2019.
