Feargus Urquhart also shared that many of the people working on the sequel were involved in the development of the original game.

As we eagerly look forward to the launch of Avowed, Obsidian’s action RPG, which is reportedly postponed to early 2025, we could spend some time checking one of the other titles under development by the studio, The Outer Worlds 2.
News regarding the sequel to the original 2019 video game has been scarce since the studio announced it in 2021. A remaster of the original game, The Outer Worlds: Spacer's Choice Edition, was launched in 2023 but met with poor reception. Yesterday, Obsidian CEO Feargus Urquhart took to the Limit Break Network podcast and shared some insights into the status of the game’s development. He said:
“It's going really well, and it's always very easy for us to say that cos you know that's what we should say, whatever we ask the question. But no, it actually is, really. I'm really impressed with the team.”
He then provided more details about the development and mentioned that quite a few members working on the sequel were from the original development team, including the lead programmer, creative director, and game director.
The announcement of the game was made back in the pandemic, which was a “really hard time at the studio.” At one time, they even thought about whether the development of The Outer Worlds 2 should be suspended or if the whole team should be put on Avowed. “We were kind of a crappy developer for about a year and a half.” However, in the end, the team still believed that these games would follow the planned timelines, and they managed to keep the promise.
