OpenAI, the company behind ChatGPT, has decided to locate its first corporate office outside of the US in London.
The San Francisco-based company OpenAI has announced its first international expansion with a new office in London.
OpenAI had long plans to establish a presence in Europe, according to Chief Executive Officer Sam Altman. He mentioned that Poland, France, and the UK were on the list of locations.
In a blog post, OpenAI said it would be hiring for research, engineering and business positions in London, a city that Altman described as a place with "world-class talents." Several new positions are already available on the organization's careers page.
The opening of the London office is an important step in OpenAI's global development. The new office will expand the organization's potential to advance AI and further its mission to make the benefits of AI available to all. The teams in London will focus on advancing OpenAI’s leading-edge research and engineering capabilities while collaborating on our mission with local communities and policymakers.
"We are eager to build dynamic teams in research, engineering, and go-to-market functions, as well as other areas, to reinforce our efforts in creating and promoting safe AGI," the statement says.
