Principled BSDF In Blender's Cycles Now Supports Dispersion

See what else is coming to Blender 5.3.

Last week, a new feature was introduced that many of you creating 3D diamonds, gemstones, and prisms have been waiting for. No more complicated glass shaders: in Cycles, the Principled BSDF can now handle dispersion natively, producing realistic rainbow-colored reflections and light.

It's an RGB-based implementation rather than a true spectral one, but it still does a pretty good job. It's also been merged and is now available in the Blender 5.3 builds, just like Ilyasse L showed above.

Blender 5.3 is currently in the Alpha stage, which is expected to continue until September 30. We don't know much about its new features yet, but it looks like we're getting some lighting nodes that NPR artists will really enjoy.

One that's particularly interesting is Light Accumulation, a node that lets you create stylized lighting. You can read more about it here.

In case you missed this, Blender currently needs help from users with Android 13 tablets.

And if you're interested in stylized 3D in Blender, watch lassyla's shader tutorial and check out Edutaker's quick video on line art:
