This Free Blender Tool Procedurally Converts Hair Grooms into Feathers

The bird looks so fluffy!

Sherzod Kadirov, 3D VFX Artist, created a free Blender tool that procedurally turns hair groom curves into feathers using Geometry Nodes. It supports custom feather shapes, random or painted variation, grooming controls, and flexible procedural shading. It's designed to work with animated characters.

Some of the current features include grooming feathers directly on the character, custom feather shape support, and random or painted feather shape distribution.

You are also able to control the feather length, scale, and surface alignment; apply procedural shading with base color, root/tip masks, and add color variation per feather.

Kadirov is planning to add more controls and features in the future. Even at this stage, the tool can be very helpful to artists, making the workflow easier and faster. You can get it here.

And you can check out other projects involving feathers that we have featured before, like Alex Martinelli's procedural Blender setup, Eric Liu's Diablo IV Sorceress Fan Art, SouthernShotty's tutorial on stylized fur and feathers, and Eugenia Zanina's owl harpy character
