Roblox Will Let Developers Release Their Games As Standalone Apps

The company launches a project titled Roblox Everywhere, expanding the possibilities for creators and players.

At this year's annual Roblox Developers Conference, Roblox announced an upcoming project called Roblox Everywhere, which will let creators make their games available as standalone apps across multiple platforms and add new features for players.

Roblox Everywhere will allow creators to make their games available as standalone apps across mobile, PC, and consoles, with Roblox powering the underlying technology and services. It's not clear yet whether the games will be available on the Epic Games Store, Steam, or GOG. A Roblox representative shared with PC Gamer that selected storefronts and developers will participate in the project at first: "We will start with a select set of gaming developers and storefronts to test, and we will share more details soon."

Players will also be able to play games in a browser – Chrome at first, with more to follow – with no app or install required, and offline, as creators will have the option to enable offline solo play alongside a live multiplayer mode. Web-based play will be available by the end of this year, while offline play will be available by mid-2027, with early access coming soon. Other additions include a new Friends chat tab, which follows players across games, voice typing, and an option for creators to add pre-set Quick Words, like "start your engines" for a racing game.

Apart from this, Roblox expands its engine capabilities beyond 3D multiplayer worlds and adds a new orthographic camera, animated image containers, and direct sprite-sheet import, along with new UI features like blur, text shadows, and enhanced gradients.

"Roblox expands into an engine for standalone games, while Unreal Engine 6 expands its feature set with a standards based interoperable content ecosystem. The winner of this competition: developers!" says Tim Sweeney, CEO and Founder of Epic Games.

At the conference, Roblox also shared some figures about its operations. The platform's creators earned about $1.7 billion in the past year, and since launching DevEx in 2013, they have earned more than $5 billion on the platform. In the last quarter alone, players spent 29 billion hours on Roblox across more than 180 countries. The platform has also been classified as a Very Large Online Platform in Europe, as it has more than 45 million users in the EU.
