Rockstar Hackers Leak Data Ahead of Previously Stated Deadline

"This data was never for sale...It is now leaked. How does it feel to be the headline?"

In case you missed it

Rockstar hacked

Not long after confirming a new data breach by hacker group ShinyHunters, Rockstar Games is now facing the next phase of a familiar escalation: the data has reportedly been leaked publicly.

According to a report from Kotaku, the hacker group ShinyHunters released the stolen information ahead of its previously stated ransom deadline, after the studio declined to engage.

Your Snowflake instances metrics data was compromised thanks to Anodot.com. We do not operate a Telegram channel and this data was never for sale like reported on X (formerly Twitter) for $200k. It is now leaked. How does it feel to be the headline?

Reportedly, the data does not include any identifying information for players or source code and doesn't seem to be related to Grand Theft Auto VI either.

Instead, it's mostly related to the live service stats and data for games like Grand Theft Auto Online and Red Dead Online. Which, to no surprise, just confirms a lot of people are still playing GTA Online and the game is continuing to make lots and lots of money.

Here are summaries of the data on the GTA Forums if you're curious.

Reports indicate that attackers gained access through a third-party analytics platform (Anodot) within Rockstar's cloud infrastructure (Snowflake). Rather than directly breaching Rockstar’s internal systems, the attackers leveraged a supply chain vulnerability, exploiting trust relationships between services.

This approach has become increasingly common in recent years, particularly as development pipelines rely more heavily on cloud platforms and external tooling.

The group behind the breach, ShinyHunters, has a long history of targeting major companies and using “ransom-or-release” tactics across multiple industries.
