Rumor: Nintendo's New Project, Codenamed Spiral, Could Be Splatoon 4

Says a reliable data miner.

Renowned leaker, Midori, has recently suggested that a new game project at Nintendo, codenamed “Spiral”, is "very likely" to be the next addition to the successful Splatoon series, namely Splatoon 4.

Here's a reminder of the remarkable accomplishment of Splatoon 3, Nintendo's vibrant third-person shooter. Back in September of 2022, Nintendo announced that domestic sales of Splatoon 3 for Switch exceeded 3.45 million units within just three days of its launch, breaking the record for any Nintendo Switch software sales in its first three days.

Needless to say, Midori's revelation has sparked numerous discussions among fans, who hold mixed opinions. Some doubt if Nintendo is already starting the development of a new Splatoon game, given that it's been less than two years since the release of the third game. Others find it quite possible, considering the two-year gap between the release of the first Splatoon in 2015 and Splatoon 2 in 2017, just a few months after the release of the Nintendo Switch.

Adding fuel to the speculation is the expected announcement of Nintendo's new handheld console, often referred to as "Switch 2," by the end of this fiscal year, ending in March 2025. Given this timeline, many believe it makes sense that a new Splatoon game could be in development.
