Saman Mahmoudi and Raf Grassetti Revisit Their Metroid-Inspired Projects

The artists have shared one more look at their amazing 3D recreations of the game's main protagonist.

In case you missed it, back in 2022, Senior Character Artist at Ubisoft Saman Mahmoudi showcased an absolutely incredible animation of Metroid's timeless protagonist Samus Aran exiting her iconic Varia Suit. Created with 3ds Max, ZBrush, Substance 3D Painter, Substance 3D Designer, and Marmoset Toolbag, the animation offered a more realistic take on the character and allowed the artist to conduct some character creation experiments.

Recently, the creator revisited the project, demonstrating a background-less version of the animation and sharing what inspired the project in the first place. According to Saman, the idea for the suit-exiting animation came when he saw a screenshot of Samus standing near the suit, which made him wonder how she would get in, and that how the transformation came about.

And here's the version of the animation with the background, unveiled by the artist last year:

Yesterday, Character Artist and Studio Art Director at Sony Santa Monica Raf Grassetti also revisited one of his earlier Metroid-inspired works, publishing an Instagram post that featured his version of Samus, made with ZBrush and rendered in Arnold and Photoshop. In the caption, the artist wrote, "Metroid, we are ready Nintendo, make it happen", likely referring to Metroid Prime 4, rumored to be at its final stages of production.
