See How to Create Cartoon Tree with SpeedTree & Blender

Trung Duy Nguyen shares his workflow.

Have you seen Trung Duy Nguyen's gorgeous stylized tree? If not, don't worry: you can just make your own with his new tutorial, which took him an entire summer to complete but will take you just over 20 minutes to follow. All you need are Blender, SpeedTree, and your creativity.

"Today I’m trying out SpeedTree. With its hefty price tag—is it really worth it? You decide (yes, the same obvious answer every YouTube video ends with)."

In the tutorial, Nguyen will show you how to get small twigs to bloom into a stunning crown of leaves and animate the scene to capture anyone's awed attention.

If you don't like watching video tutorials, there is a text version. The end result is the same: a beautiful swaying tree you can turn into a whole environment if you wish.

"So, should you use SpeedTree? It depends on your needs. If your trees are far in the background or you just need a few simple assets for a game, SpeedTree might be overkill," the creator concludes. "But for cinematic close-ups, stylized animation, or high-quality film visuals, especially where wind animation is important, Speed Tree really stands out. It offers beautiful customizable trees with natural motion that are hard to match. It's also great for creating eye-catching wallpapers or hero shots for your portfolio."

Nguyen creates stunning stylized projects, like this Ghibli-style Königsberg Castle, which you can also make using our interview with the artist, on ArtStation.

There is also another guide to stylized foliage you can use for your scenes.
