Huawei and Xiaomi started the week by announcing their new foldable phones on Monday, the Mate XT2 and the 18 Fold, respectively — just two days before Apple unveiled its own first foldable phone, the iPhone Duo, on Wednesday.

The Mate XT2 will fold out twice into a tablet-sized screen, with a Kirin 9050 Pro chip and a redesigned hinge to reduce the crease. Its main display is a 10.2-inch LTPO OLED panel running at 3K resolution and 90Hz, while the outer screen measures 6.5 inches with a 120Hz refresh rate and a peak brightness of 6,500 nits.

It also has improved water resistance and a privacy screen. On the camera side, the phone features a triple rear camera setup — a 50MP main sensor, a 40MP ultrawide, and a 50MP periscope lens with OIS — plus an 8MP front camera on both the inner and outer displays. Its price starts at CNY 19,999 ($2,980), and the top-end version will be CNY 29,999 ($3,725).

The 18 Fold is a book-style that remains passport-sized when folded while supporting three apps side by side when opened. It is built around Xiaomi's own XRING O3 chip, a 3nm processor paired with up to 16GB of RAM — including LPDDR6 on the top-tier model — and up to 1TB of UFS 4.1 storage.

It has a 7.58-inch inner display and 5.38-inch outer display, which both run at 120Hz and reach up to 4,000 nits of peak brightness, protected by Dragon Crystal Glass 3.0. Its camera system was developed with Leica and includes a 200MP main sensor, a 50MP periscope lens with 3.5x optical zoom, and a 50MP ultrawide. It measures 5.02mm thick when unfolded, and it houses a 6,000mAh silicon-carbon battery with 67W wired and 50W wireless charging.

The phone weighs 219 grams, which, according to Xiaomi's CEO, "is lighter than Apple's iPhone Pro Max." Its price ranges from CNY 10,999 ($1,638) to CNY 15,999 ($2,383).

The iPhone Duo offers a book-style fold, and it runs on Apple's A20 Pro chip, built with a 6-core CPU, a 7-core GPU, and a dual 16-core Neural Engine, cooled by a vapor chamber system. It has a 7.6-inch inner Super Retina XDR display and a 5.4-inch outer display; both support ProMotion up to 120Hz, with outdoor brightness reaching 3,000 nits. It will also allow you to run two apps side by side.

Its rear camera system consists of two 48MP Fusion sensors, with a main lens at f/1.6 and an ultrawide at f/2.2. The battery life reaches up to 24 hours of typical use, up to 31 hours of video playback when using the inner display, and up to 44 hours of video playback when using the outer display.

The phone has a Grade 5 titanium frame, Ceramic Shield 2 on the front, IP68 water resistance, is eSIM-only, and uses Touch ID in the side button instead of Face ID. The starting price is $1,999. 

Huawei currently dominates the foldable market in China, accounting for roughly 68% of shipments there in the second quarter — which likely explains why its prices are the highest and its phone has a more premium form factor, while Xiaomi and Apple lean toward a similar book-style fold.

An important note is that for now, the Mate XT2 and the 18 Fold will only launch in China, and neither company has revealed whether their phones will launch in other countries eventually. The iPhone Duo will be available globally alongside the iPhone 18 Pro/Pro Max on October 23, 2026.
