Sony's Patent Introduces AI "Player" Who Will Play Games for You When You Are Stuck
Well, that's one way of saving time.

If you, like many other players, hated when God of War Ragnarök characters spoiled puzzles, you won't like this news. Sony has patented an AI helper who will play the game for you when you're stuck.
According to VGC, the patent was filed in September 2024, but the World Intellectual Property Organization published its status report this week. This technology introduces a Ghost Player, an AI-controlled character that can show you the solution to a puzzle, for example, or simply skip the whole section (in the Guide Mode and Complete Mode, respectively).
The AI model would reportedly be trained on existing footage of the game and not rely on pre-recorded inputs set by a developer.

Ghost Player might remind you of PS5's Game Help, a feature that provides hints, tips, and walkthrough videos on demand. "For supported games, you can watch videos of other players’ gameplay as Community Game Help. If you participate in the Community Game Help Program, your gameplay videos are automatically captured and published, and appear as Community Game Help."
Ghost Player seems to be a more advanced, tailored version of the tech.

The document doesn't mean Sony will use it in its games. It has previously filed patents for a self-censorship tool, a system to reduce online lag by predicting player behavior with AI, the ability to revisit game moments when streaming, and more.
