SpongeBob's Smug Smirk Reimagined in 3D With Blender

You like Krabby Patties, don't you Squidward?

Ümral Ismayilov, a Character Artist and Motion Designer known for his detailed 3D recreations of cartoon and video game characters, continues the series with a new awesome model inspired by the timeless classic – SpongeBob SquarePants.

Paying tribute to one of his favorite characters, Ümral has reimagined SpongeBob's iconic smug smirk from the "You like Krabby Patties, don't you Squidward?" scene, adding an extra layer of realism to the character's appearance. To set up the model, the artist utilized his usual combination of ZBrush, Maya, Substance 3D Painter, and Blender.

And here are some behind-the-scenes shots shared by the author:

For context, here's the original scene from the cartoon:

Notably, this is not the first time Ümral has paid tribute to SpongeBob. Previously, the creator also showcased a couple of impressive Mr.Krabs models, which you can see below:

If you would like to learn more about Ümral's production pipeline, we also recommend checking out our 2023 interview with the artist, who shared the workflow behind the Bowser project, showed how the hair was groomed, and explained the texturing process.
