Developer Eric Barone, known as ConcernedApe, released the long-awaited Stardew Valley update 1.6 today, adding a plethora of new enhancements and modifications to the farming simulation game.

Now we've picked up a few highlights of the update for you to take a quick look at.

Firstly, three brand new festivals and events have been introduced with this update:

  • The Desert Festival, which is a three-day celebration in spring that can be accessed once the bus is repaired.
  • Two exciting mini fishing festivals: The Trout Derby and SquidFest, which will serve as a test your fishing skills.
  • A unique environmental event in summer. There is no additional info released for this one, so let's stay tuned.

Another significant addition is the introduction of a "Mastery" system, which offers potent perks and items.

A brand-new farm type is unveiled: Meadowlands Farm. This farm stands out with its unique blue grass, which is a favorite among animals. As a bonus, those who choose this farm type will be given an already-built coop and two chickens to start with.

Now, bringing some good news for pet lovers. Have you been longing for the companionship of more than one pet in this game? Your wish has now been granted. Upon reaching maximum hearts with your initial pet, you can expand your pet family. Plus, you can now give your fur babies hats. What's even more heart-melting — loyal pets that adore you will occasionally surprise you with special gifts.

For those who enjoy multiplayer gameplay, the PC version now supports up to 8 players, allowing more friends to join in on the farming fun.

This new update will also give you an unexpected ability — drink mayonnaise.

Last but not least, the NPCs now have winter outfits as well as many new dialogues. These dialogues include custom gift reactions, dynamic responses to in-game events, and personalized dialogues for accepting the Flower Dance.

All these fun and brilliant new events and features in this update have resulted in an unprecedented surge in Stardew Valley's player numbers. According to SteamDB, by the time this story is worked on, there are over 131,000 players currently logged on Steam alone with the 24-hour peak roaring to above 146,000, a number that is rapidly escalating and surpassing the previous record of 94,879 players in January 2021.
