Glitch Productions is looking for a Senior 2D Rough Animator to work on the new IP.

Glitch Productions, an Australian independent animation studio, renowned for The Amazing Digital Circus show, is hiring a Senior 2D Rough Animator with a focus on anime-style animation.

The studio creates original, long-form animated shows distributed on YouTube. Glitch Productions' works also include shows such as The Gaslight District, Murder Drones, Knights of Guinevere, and more, and the studio's YouTube channel has over 16 million subscribers.

At the position of Senior 2D Rough Animator, you will collaborate with the studio's 2D team, helping to bring an upcoming 2D animated show to life. In particular, the studio is focusing on experience with hitting the fluid motions and expressive acting, reminiscent of the classic 90's anime, such as Cowboy Bebop.

The responsibilities include:

  • Create accurate keypose layout and rough animation in ToonBoom Harmony and bring to tie-down stage, to be handed over to the clean-up team.
  • Work to weekly quotas and deadlines set by our Production team.
  • Take direction and apply notes from the Creative Director to elevate your work.
  • Translating the show style & intent of the showrunner's vision, into appealing, expressive, high-quality anime drawings and timings.
  • Communicating effectively with Production Coordinators, updating them on your progress, so your work stays on track.
  • Contribute to a positive, supportive team culture and promote good work practices.
  • Help maintain confidentiality and security of project information.
  • Contribute to relevant team meetings and training sessions as needed.
  • Be available on Slack and email during working hours to stay connected.

A successful candidate will have:

  • 3+ years of experience in 2D Anime animation credited as a Rough Animator.
  • Anime draftsmanship and fine-tuned human anatomy skills.
  • A proven history of producing solid, well-timed frame-by-frame 2D animation work.
  • Experience with Toon Boom Harmony.
  • Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • A collaborative mindset and the ability to help motivate and support junior artists, while working efficiently in a fast-paced, quality-focused environment.
  • Familiarity with asset tracking tools like ShotGrid.

Kevin Temmer also offered a closer look at some of the sequences from TADC's third episode, presented a series of experiments in achieving a 2D look using 3D software, and shared a short breakdown of creating one of the animations for the show, also explaining how he crafted a 2D-style setup in 3D:
