Stylized Wednesday Playing Cello Made in ZBrush & Substance 3D Painter

The model is created by Prashan Subasinghe.

Take a look at this beautiful stylized model of Netflix's Wednesday playing cello created by 3D Artist Prashan Subasinghe. The girl was designed and sculpted in ZBrush, textured in Substance 3D Painter, and rendered and composited in Blender.

"I love the show and I love to work on characters that inspire me. The focus of this project is the design itself and I tried to keep it as simple as possible. I wanted to capture the mood, the feel, and the essence of the character," the artist told us.

Subasinghe used very low poly shapes to block out the character in ZBrush before jumping into secondary and tertiary shapes. Once he was happy with the shapes, he dealt with retopology and UVs and then touched up the sculpt if needed.

"I textured her in Substance 3D Painter and then made a very simple rig in Blender to get the arm action. Fun fact: I usually like to add blinking to my characters but I learned that Wednesday doesn’t blink."

The project was inspired by the cello version of Paint It Black:

"Smart, sarcastic and a little dead inside, Wednesday Addams investigates a murder spree while making new friends — and foes — at Nevermore Academy."

Wednesday is a recently released TV show based on The Addams Family, created by Alfred Gough and Miles Millar, with Tim Burton directing four episodes.

Wednesday is not the only character Prashan Subasinghe has created: you can find more impressive works on the artist's ArtStation.
