Take Closer Look at Character VFX Made for 2XKO

Sonia Firsova shows her work on the League of Legends fighter.

If Blitzcrank's swings are too quick for you to enjoy in 2XKO, here they are frame by frame, thanks to Sonia Firsova, who shared her work on the VFX for the character as well as for Caitlyn, Akali, Ahri, and Vi.

"I was super lucky to get the opportunity to work on Blitzcrank, they were my very first champion on 2XKO and will forever be special to me," she said on ArtStation.

Firsova also noted that working on Caitlyn's kit, in particular, was "quite tricky" because of the shot variation and the prop interactions, but it was fun.

Despite the efforts of many artists and developers, 2XKO was not as successful as Riot expected, so the game will stop active development at the end of 2026, having existed for less than a year.

"Over the last few months, we’ve been monitoring 2XKO’s trajectory closely, and what we’ve seen is painting a clear, consistent picture: while a lot of you jumped in to try the game and there's an incredible community that plays every day, we haven’t seen enough players stick with the game to get to a path toward sustainability."

While Riot promises to keep the servers going beyond 2026, the fighter's last characters will be Lux and Samira, and final fixes will arrive in December.

The studio is unlocking all champions and refunding the money spent in 2XKO on or before August 20.

"Our goal now is to do right by the players who have invested in us so far and want to continue playing 2XKO, as well as the Rioters who have poured everything into delivering on this dream," said the team.

Tragic news, but at least we have beautiful art and VFX from the game and working servers – not a common luxury nowadays.
