Take-Two CEO Explains Why GTA 6 Wasn't Announced for PC

“The only thing that happens after the lack of an announcement is an announcement."

Rockstar Games

As we patiently wait for the release of the much-awaited GTA 6, which is supposed to happen in the fall of next year, with the developers confident that there won't be any delays, discussions about the game don't stop.

One question that people care a lot about is when the PC version would arrive. In a press release last December, it was revealed that GTA 6 is scheduled to be launched on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S, with no mention of a PC version.

When asked in an interview, whether the absence of a PC announcement was final, or if we can expect it to come later on, Strauss Zelnick, the CEO of Take-Two, Rockstar's parent company, gave a reply (thanks, VGC):

“Well, the lack of an announcement is not something that could be set in stone as near as I could tell, because the only thing that happens after the lack of an announcement is an announcement, I suppose, or a continuing lack of an announcement, I guess that could happen too. It doesn’t seem to me that either would be set in stone.”

“But Rockstar has an approach to platforms which we’ve seen before, and they will make more announcements in due time. I do believe that the right strategy for our business is to be where the consumer is, and historically what this company has done is address consumers anywhere they are, on any platform that makes sense, over time.”

Honestly, for fans, particularly those who play on PC, the question is not so much if the game will be released on PC — based on the developers' historical actions with earlier games in the franchise, it likely will be — but rather when it will be released on PC. Will it be one or two years after the initial release, or even longer? As of now, there is no clear answer to this question.
Mike York, who previously worked as an animator on Grand Theft Auto 5 and Red Dead Redemption 2, explained last year why Rockstar Games doesn't prioritize releasing their games on PC first. If you missed the report, you can check it here.
