The Hand-Drawn Metroidvania Well Dweller Has Been Released

We've been following the development process of the hand-drawn Metroidvania Well Dweller, and now the game is finally out; so far, it has earned very positive reviews.
In this game, you play as the tiny bird Glimmer, who, armed with a matchstick, has to save his family from the wicked queen, exploring a dark fairy-tale world and fighting nightmarish creatures.
We first covered the game back in March 2026, when developer Kyle Thompson announced the launch date; then we had the chance to interview the developer about the game. He explained that he makes his games alongside his brother, Eric.
He also mentioned some of the inspirations behind Well Dweller, how he created it using GameMaker, Spine, and Photoshop, and how he implemented the mechanics into the story.

Well Dweller is a game with beautiful visuals paired with dark, unsettling creatures and world design, perfect for people who love spooky things with a cozy vibe.
The game was also released on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, and Switch 1 and 2.
