It starts full production this year.
CD PROJEKT RED
While Cyberpunk 2077 is a recognizable title in CD PROJEKT RED's portfolio despite its rocky launch, one could say The Witcher was the series that brought the studio to its glory.
At the moment, it is busy with the continuation of the famous franchise, codenamed Polaris, along with a bunch of other projects it announced in 2022, including a Cyberpunk 2077 sequel, titled Orion for now, a Witcher spin-off – Project Sirius – and a Witcher remake Canis Majoris.
The Witcher 4 is perhaps the most anticipated of the bunch, even inside CDPR, as during the Flow Games podcast, its associate game director Pawel Sasko said it would be the "most advanced" out of all of these projects (and likely in the whole history of the studio). He revealed that most of the developers are focused on Polaris now; 407 people, according to a recent report.
He also mentioned that The Witcher 4 would hit active production this year but warned that all of CDPR's projects are still in the early stages at the moment, so don't expect to hear about them any time soon.
Back in 2022, CD PROJEKT RED confirmed that players wouldn't see The Witcher 4 until 2025 or even 2026. The remake will come even later, after the game's release.
In the same podcast, Sasko also discussed Cyberpunk 2077 moving to Unreal Engine 5 in the sequel and his views on AI, saying that using it to reduce costs will lead to a reduction in quality.
