This Cinematic Platformer Game Looks Very Cute, But Will Probably Make You Cry
Some games that inspired the creation of Deer & Boy are Planet of Lana, Limbo, and Neva.
Deer & Boy is a platformer game where a runaway boy finds a fawn, and they start an adventure together. Their skills will evolve as their bond does, making the story more moving.
The game doesn't have dialogue, but the story is told through visuals and music, which, according to the developers, makes it accessible to all ages and backgrounds.
The style reminds me of the game GRIS, which was also created by the Neva developers, and it's about a girl who has to find her voice.
The developer shared on Twitter/X a video that shows part of the creation process, making a comparison between how the concept art looked and the final scene:
On another post, they said that they've been working on the game for six years:
"From very early on, we knew Deer & Boy wasn't going to be a game with dialogue trees or text boxes or voiced characters. The relationship at the heart of the game, a boy and a fawn finding each other at exactly the right moment, felt like the kind of thing that words could actually get in the way of. You know that feeling when something moves you, and you can't quite explain why? That's what we were going for."
The game is set to be released this year, and it will be available for PS5, Nintendo Switch, and PC via Steam. You can add it to your wishlist on Steam now.
