This Upcoming Survival Shooter Game Switches From Unity to Godot

Road to Vostok's developer has released Public Demo 1 v3, announcing that the porting process is 100% complete.

A few days ago, Solo Game Developer known as Antti shipped Public Demo 1 v3 for Road to Vostok, a hardcore single-player survival FPS game, officially announcing that the game has been fully ported from Unity to Godot.

For those unaware, Road to Vostok was first revealed back in 2023 to widespread acclaim, drawing in over 400,000 players during its initial public test. Set in a post-apocalyptic border zone between Finland and Russia, the game challenges players to survive, scavenge, plan, and navigate through the Border Zone to reach Vostok – a hazardous and mysterious zone where death entails losing everything, from loot to save files.

Back in October, the developer announced that Road to Vostok would shift from Unity to Godot, a move most likely made in response to the introduction of Unity's new runtime fees, highly criticized by the game development community. Now, the game has been 100% transferred to Godot, with the creator mentioning that the entire process spanned three months and required 615 hours of development time.

Alongside the release of Public Demo 1 v3, Antti also unveiled the future roadmap stating that the main gameplay loop demo, Public Demo 2, will be launched in Q1 2024, with an enhanced iteration, Public Demo 2 v2, planned for release in Q2 2024.
