Jesse Miettinen is working on a new "The Last of Us-like generator" with multiple destruction setups.
Jesse Miettinen, a brilliant 3D Artist and guru of proceduralism, has showcased a cool new setup that tackles the injustice of only textures being tileable, enabling users to create tileable destroyed concrete models – perfect for creating abandoned 3D bridges, roads, and buildings.
Made in Blender using Geometry Nodes, the showcased system is described by the author as "test version 01," featuring only premade Instances looping and acting more as a proof of concept rather than a finished tool. Once it is finalized, however, the artist plans to include it in his upcoming "The Last of Us-like generator," which will feature multiple destruction tools and be commercially available.
Earlier, Jesse also demonstrated a way to create a Normal Map-like texture from your volumetric smoke stored in a VDB, so that when you put this texture on a flat billboard, it can react to light direction properly:
