Toph's Introduction Location From Avatar Aang Movie Was Fully Modeled In Blender

Explore more of the amazing work from the artists who brought Avatar Aang: The Last Airbender to life.

The coolest thing about social media is that the people behind our favorite games and movies can just come online and post amazing glimpses like this on a random Wednesday. This Avatar movie art drop has been really inspiring to see, no machine can replace the amount of human creativity and care behind a project like this. Congratulations to everyone involved with Avatar Aang: The Last Airbender, it's great to see the work and dedication behind the scenes being shared.

Even as a 2D movie, Avatar Aang's production incorporated 3D elements. Connor Sheehan showcased how he revisited the Earth Kingdom for the movie, including the arena for Toph's introduction, which was fully modeled in Blender before being handed over to the animators. And according to him, this was only one of the smaller environments:

"For this specific environment, I don't remember it being longer than 2 work weeks start to finish. This was one of the smaller environments compared to the monsters such as The Southern Air Temple and the entirety of Republic City. They took a lot longer!"

Tom Barkel revealed how he storyboarded this sequence:

We've gathered more showcases from the talented artists behind Avatar Aang: The Last Airbender, including early concepts, rough animations, and more. Take a look:

Recently, acclaimed manga artist Inio Asano shared that he creates detailed 3D environments for his work in Unreal Engine 5.

As for Blender, it has been used in many professional productions, including the Chainsaw Man movie. Blender Studio is also currently working on Overgrown, a feature film project that aims to create an open-source guide for producing large-scale animated projects. Here's how you can support this initiative.
