Try This Box3D Integration For Unreal Engine 5

Antonio Lattanzio's plug-in is completely free and open-source.

Antonio Lattanzio has shared the latest progress on his Box3D integration for Unreal Engine, which he has been developing over the past few weeks, replacing almost the entire physics pipeline with Erin Catto's 3D physics engine.

"It's been exciting to see how such a lightweight and deterministic physics engine can integrate into Unreal while staying fast and flexible," said Antonio. "The plug-in is completely free and open source. My goal isn't just to publish code: it's to build something the Unreal community can improve together."

You can download Box3DUnreal here. The developer encourages Unreal users to try it out, report bugs, suggest improvements, and submit pull requests to help move the project forward.

Box3DUnreal provides a clean and lightweight integration that makes it easier for developers to explore Box3D and build various gameplay systems. The plug-in supports static meshes, Unreal Actors and Components, C++ access, debug tools, and an example map. More features are planned as the project grows.

While Unreal Engine already includes Chaos Physics, Box3D can be useful for developers who want a lightweight and deterministic physics solution, custom gameplay physics systems, or an alternative physics engine to experiment with. Box3D is already used in several projects, including s&box, the game platform from Facepunch Studios.

Antonio Lattanzio is a Principal Engineer at emptyvessel and has recently been sharing progress on a destruction system he's building in Unreal Engine:
