Try This One-Click Automatic Skinning Add-On For Blender

Get clean weights on the body and all clothing meshes in about a second, fingers included, all processed on your GPU.

Adaptive Auto Skinning is a voxel-based automatic skinning add-on for Blender developed by Jessy Leite, a Full Stack 3D Engineer. It fills the character with voxels and spreads the bone weights through the volume, instantly giving the whole rig, including the body and clothes, clean weights. The voxel grid stays coarse where it can and gets finer where surfaces are close together, which helps keep things like fingers properly separated.

The solver runs on the GPU and looks at the actual shape of the skeleton instead of bone names. So whether you're using a Mixamo rig, Auto-Rig Pro, or your own custom armature, it works the same way, with no naming setup.

Select the armature, hit Run Skinning, and the add-on does the rest. On a 202-character benchmark, the tool's weights matched the artist's hand-painted reference for the dominant bone on 80.9% of vertices. That was the highest match rate among the automatic methods tested. The full benchmark is available on the blog.

Since some manual work is still needed, Adaptive Auto Skinning also includes a Multicolor Weight Overlay mode. It shows every bone's territory at once as a live color map while you weight-paint. Each bone gets its own color that updates as you paint, so you can see and review the whole setup without having to solo one bone at a time.

Face rigging still needs to be done manually for now, but automatic face rigging is in the works. Adaptive Auto Skinning supports Blender 4.2 LTS through 5.2 LTS on Windows, macOS, and Linux.
