Turn-Based XCOM-Like Xenonauts 2 Has Left Early Access and Reached 1.0 Status
For the people who waited for the game release for almost three years, you can finally dive into this new XCOM-like.
Xenonauts 2 has finally reached version 1.0, and it was released on Steam on April 2. The game first entered the Early Access phase in July 2023, and since then, the developers have been working on enhancing the game. Currently, it has very positive reviews with lots of strong comparisons to XCOM for its turn-based tactical gameplay.
The game takes place during an alternate reality version of 2009, in which the Cold War continues, and the Berlin Wall still stands, but there seems to be a bigger problem for humanity: an alien invasion.
Your tasks will be to learn about the aliens while conducting combat operations around the world.
"Whether fighting in the air or on the ground, your tactical prowess is put to the test when engaging alien attackers. Battles are extremely dangerous affairs, asking you to manage positioning, ammunition, lines of sight, cover, and much more besides - many of your operatives will get wounded, and many of them will die, but those that survive grow more experienced and are more capable of taking on future dangers."
The game seems to have different scenarios in the air and on the ground, building a network and creating strategies to fight the aliens (and some humans) to stop the invasion. According to the developers, you don't need to play the original Xenonauts to understand and enjoy Xenonauts 2.
If you enjoy games where you have to develop tactics while also learning and analyzing information to know what to do, you will probably like this.
If you are one of the people who played it in Early Access, what do you think of the full version? Have you already played it?
