A talented rigger and animator known as Stuff Man knows his stuff, and so can you if you follow his finger rig tutorial.

But first, you should probably take a look at his Ultimate IK Hand Rig, which you can also make using the artist's video. The exciting part is that it is now "a true hybrid (IK-FK-Macros), and Stuff Man is thinking of shooting a full hand rigging tutorial or making a tool that builds it automatically.
