Unity Asset Store To Remove Assets From Greater China Publishers

More than 3,000 assets will be affected starting March 31, 2026.

You've probably seen an email from Unity this week stating that they will be delisting China-based assets from the Unity Asset Store at the end of this month. This is due to "updated regional licensing, distribution, and compliance policy requirements for publishers in the Greater China Region," which includes Hong Kong and Macau.

If you own any of these assets, they will remain available and continue to function as they do today. However, the publisher will no longer be able to update the asset or provide support. As for organizations in China, Hong Kong, and Macau, they will lose access to the Global Unity Asset Store and all their free or purchased assets after March 31. A new Download All button has been added to the My Assets tab, allowing you to download and save everything you've acquired before that date.

The full list of about 3,000 affected assets is available here. Unity is extending the refund period, so anyone who purchased an asset on this list within the last six months can request a refund.

For more information, see here. Since Unity doesn't specify which assets are being removed, Reddit user iyedbhd built a tool to check which of your purchased assets are affected and if you qualify for a refund. You can try it by clicking this link:

Reactions from the community have been mostly negative, with many frustrated that they have to manually check which of their purchased assets are on a list of thousands, and the decision also raises broader concerns about growing global divides. Unity seems to be implementing this change because of a separate Chinese asset store for Tuanjie Engine, a localized version of Unity in China.
