Unity has been adding AI features into its engine for some time, and it has now announced that Unity AI is in open beta. It includes a built-in agent for Unity workflows, as well as the ability to connect to other AI tools through the AI Gateway and MCP server.

Unity AI is said to "leverage deep context from your projects and is built specifically for Unity workflows". Beyond providing answers and generating plans and analysis, it can also create assets and scenes from prompts. The assistant works through a conversational interface and operates in three modes: Ask, Agent, and Plan.

Unity AI is available to all developers using Unity 6 and above. It's not included by default and must be installed as a package. The functionality and access can also be adjusted if needed. If you're on a Pro, Enterprise, or Industry license, you automatically get access to Unity AI. Personal Edition users, however, need a $10/month subscription.

Regarding how this feature handles user data, Unity says that "by default, user data is used solely to provide the service and is not used to train AI models." You can learn more about it here and try Unity AI in beta here.

In the past, Unity launched Unity Muse, a similar suite of generative AI tools, which was later deprecated. Recently, Blender announced that Anthropic, best known as the developer of Claude, had joined the Blender Development Fund as a Corporate Patron, which sparked backlash and was later reduced to a one-time donation.
