V-Ray Is Now Free For Blender Users
The new Community Edition is suitable for commercial projects as well.
Chaos has supported Blender for quite some time, including joining the Blender Foundation Development Fund as a Corporate Gold Sponsor last year. Now, Blender artists have good news: a free version of V-Ray is available.
The Community Edition is aimed at solo creators looking to build strong portfolios and handle small-scale personal or freelance projects at their own pace. However, it does come with some limitations. Render resolution is capped at 2K, and output is limited to 8-bit formats. It is also limited to local machine use, with no pipeline integration support.
Even so, this could be a practical option for beginners and independent creators. It's rare for a major production renderer on the market to include a Blender edition that is free for commercial use.
V-Ray offers high-quality 3D rendering, photorealistic visuals, and advanced lighting tools. To use the free Community Edition, you need to fill in a form on the Chaos website, and once it's submitted, your license is activated instantly. The Community Edition licenses are issued for 90 days at a time, but they can be renewed.
