Watch a Coffee Machine Rebuilt From a Technical Drawing in This Short Film
Ronan Mahon demonstrated impressively realistic texturing.
Creative Director and Technical Artist Ronan Mahon demonstrated a short film created for Adobe, introducing a webinar about taking CAD data through to a digital twin and using it to create product visuals.
The film imagines a coffee machine returning to its technical drawing and rebuilding it through materials, graphics, and lighting. It then explores different colors, finishes, and settings for the same product. The artist crafted a photorealistic prop, impeccably recreating lifelike textures.
For the project, Mahon modeled and UV-mapped the coffee machine using a CAD/STEP model supplied by Adobe as a reference. He textured it in Substance 3D Painter using Adobe's colorways and materials from the Substance 3D Assets library, while most of the decorative models also came from the library. The animation and rendering were done in Unreal Engine. The artist thanked Nicolas Paulhac, Director of 3D Content at Adobe, and the Adobe team for the collaboration.
