What If Leon Kennedy Just... Gardened? Kamiya's Joke Pitch Has Fans Surprisingly Into It

Hideki Kamiya jokingly suggested a cozy life sim, "Resident Not-Evil."

Capcom

Hideki Kamiya, a renowned game designer who worked on the original Resident Evil and directed Resident Evil 2, jokingly pitched a cozy life sim based on the franchise. The director even gave the project a funny name – "Resident Not-Evil," and fans have met the suggestion with unexpected excitement.

The director congratulated the franchise on its 30th anniversary and playfully asked the devs to add a "non-horror" mode. One of the fans addressed Kamiya and shared their thoughts that it would be great if the renowned creator returned to the Resident Evil franchise – maybe not to create a horror experience, but to show the continuation of Leon and Claire's story, and to make the game horror-free – with enemies looking like "tofu."

In response, Kamiya shared (via Automaton) his vision for a potential sequel of such a cozy life sim, with Leon finally having a normal life in the countryside with peaceful errands like baking, walking the dog, and gardening:

"If I made it, it'd turn into a game where retired Leon goes fishing in the countryside, forages for wild veggies, bakes bread, walks the dog, tends a home garden, drives 50 km to the general store for supplies, invites old buddies over for a barbecue, fixes the neighbor grandma's oven at her request, sells homemade lemonade at the local festival... but that'd be cool, right...?"

Fans' reaction was overall excitement, and Hideki Kamiya jokingly addressed Capcom developers to create such a game: "there are a lot of voices out there saying they want something like a Biohazard that's not scary, so if you have some free time, please consider making it... I want to play it too..."

I think it could be great to revisit familiar places and characters without the horror element, just enjoying the experience. Interestingly, a similar idea has already appeared recently – Hideo Kojima's upcoming game OD reportedly includes an option to tone down its horror elements for players who find it too intense, allowing them to still experience the game without being overwhelmed by fear.
