Xbox Head Phil Spencer on Starfield: "Unfortunately, We Can't Localize Every Game"

Players might need to learn another language.

Starfield is a highly anticipated game among players all over the world, so it's no wonder they want to understand what's happening in their language. However, despite the many petitions going around asking for localization, Starfield may remain unattainable for some.

"Unfortunately, we can't localize every game to every market, but we're always analyzing market opportunities and getting feedback on individual games," Xbox Head Phil Spencer told the Korean Yonhap News Agency (via Windows Central). "It is difficult to answer because the discussion [about localization] has not yet ended. We will continue to have conversations and listen to feedback."

For now, Starfield supports subtitles only for English, French, Italian, German, Spanish, Japanese, Polish, Portuguese, and Simplified Chinese. Based on Spencer's words, it seems possible we'll see other popular languages on the list one day. Meanwhile, it's going to be up to fans to translate the game.

Well, at least Starfield will be the least bugged out of all Bethesda games, or so the Xbox Game Studios boss says. We'll just have to wait and see.

localised? German subs or dubs too?. it's not clear., do expect German dubs again..,but since The Outer Worlds didn't get any (I know, its not Bethesda..., and it was made before MS acquired Obsidian, stll worried if MS sees that and thinks, they can save money on the dubs, since it worked with The Outer Worlds)

I know for a fact Bethesda made a statement a while back about how, due to hostile relations between Russia and Ukraine, Bethesda along with Microsoft would be removing access to gaming services to select countries with Russia being amongst those on the list. I guess China made it off the list since they started to not support Russia as much anymore. North Korea is still on that list, as well as any country that's supported Russia in it's current endeavor.

It's stupid to tell users around the world that Microsoft's first-class products are not localizable
