Previously, OpenAI didn't allow showing realistic faces for fear of users creating deceptive content.
AI-generated images are known for their surrealism and detachment from reality. However, it might change soon as OpenAI allowed users to share their pictures of photorealistic faces made with DALL-E 2.
Previously, OpenAI was concerned about creators using the text-to-image tool to make deepfakes or other 'deceptive' pictures, but the new safeguards make sure the system "rejects attempts to create the likeness of any public figures, including celebrities." Apparently, you also can't upload images of human faces.
"This is due to two new safety measures designed to minimize the risk of DALL·E being used to create deceptive content," said the email sent to DALL-E users, which was shared with Motherboard.
Creators have already started sharing the nonexistent faces they got from the DALL-E. The results are pretty awesome, although some believe the ability of AI to generate human faces raises ethical questions.
