3D Artist Reimagines Baldur's Gate 3's Astarion as a Real Person

The model's facial features are based on the character's voice actor, Neil Newbon.

"If Baldur's Gate 3's Astarion existed in real life, what would he look like?" That's the question that has recently been answered by Character Artist Natallia Sudas, also known as BLU1304, who unveiled a series of renders showcasing a highly realistic 3D take on the game's most iconic vampire.

Based on the character's in-game proportions, the digital version of Astarion was set up using ZBrush, ZWrap, TexturingXYZ's and FlippedNormals' textures, and RenderMan, Pixar's photorealistic 3D rendering software the studio uses to render their in-house 3D animated movie productions.T o enhance the connection with reality, the author used Astarion's real-life voice actor, Neil Newbon, as the main reference, incorporating his facial features, skin texture, roughness, moles, and other details into the digital portrait.

And here are some WIP shots shared by the artist:

Earlier, BLU1304 also impressed us with her incredible portraits of Rey Skywalker, Anakin Skywalker, Margot Robbie, Keanu Reeves, True Detective's Rust Cohle, and Hermione Granger. You can check out all these characters and more by visiting Natallia's Instagram and ArtStation pages.

Last year, Character Artist Margarita Ykhnenko also paid tribute to Astarion, presenting her own Unreal Engine-powered 3D take on the character:
