Analyst Believes PlayStation 6 Might Be Delayed Longer Than Expected

No PS6 in 2027?

PlayStation 5 is Sony's latest console success, but players are looking forward to the next generation already. There is no release date yet, but it is generally believed that we'll see PS6 in 2027. However, David Gibson, senior analyst at MST Financial, thinks we'll have to wait longer than expected.

In his report, he said that previous forecasts on the new console's release window may not be accurate.

"Sony expects the PS5’s lifecycle to be extended, and the PS6’s release is likely to be delayed longer than many expected," he said (machine-translated, via VGC).

He also noted that Sony’s sales in Q3 of its financial year on the whole are projected to be ¥1.8 trillion ($11.7 billion), with operating profit at ¥160 billion ($1.04 billion).

He added that its Game & Network Services segment remained strong, and its third-quarter results "are expected to beat market expectations, driven by sales of both in-house and third-party games."

We'll see how PS6 will boost Sony's profits when it's finally released, whenever it might be.
