Annapurna Releases a Heartbreaking Third-Person Adventure About an Old Man on a Road Trip

Forever Ago, developed by Third Shift, is a beautiful, deeply emotional story relived through the eyes of an old man.

Forever Ago, a beautiful, stylized adventure game created by Third Shift, an independent 2-people studio from Germany, is officially out. In this game, you join the old man named Alfred on his solo road trip after a tragic event that turned his life upside down.

Together with the main character, you travel north and get to see stunning scenery, make new friends, capture memorable moments with an instant camera, and relive Alfred's happiest moments. Described by the developers as "a nuanced and heartfelt story about broken dreams, loss, and regret – but also courage, hope, and true friendship," Forever Ago is a uniquely emotional journey.

As you drive across the picturesque places with Alfred, you'll learn that each character has a captivating story to tell, a mental load they carry alone, and a struggle they keep pushing through, just like the protagonist. You will learn more about the people you meet and the places they live in by examining the objects in the environment around you and interacting with them.

The game is a thoughtfully crafted story, and you can tell how much love and care went into this project. Forever Ago is Third Shift's debut title that the team had been working on for 5 years. The game features an original soundtrack written by Clark Aboud, also known for Slay the Spire and Kind Words.

Steam players found Forever Ago incredibly heartwarming and charming in its focus on the art of observing, listening, and feeling. They praised the art direction and the writing in the game, saying it's "worth every penny and every tear shed."
