Artist Unveils Water Simulation with Realistic Caustics Made Using Blender
Jeremy White used the Real Caustics add-on by Sergei Zakharov.
3D Artist Jeremy White showcased this mesmerizing setup with a picturesque coastline scene – a test of the Real Caustics add-on by Sergei Zakharov.
Jeremy White used his beach JangaFX LiquiGen scene as a base for the test. For the sand smoke simulation, the artist utilized Houdini. The detail makes the scene more cohesive, while the caustics contribute to a more complete and realistic image, adding to its immersive and atmospheric feel. The scene was rendered using Cycles.
The Real Caustics add-on is a tool built for animated water. It works with fluid simulations, ocean modifiers, dynamic paint, and any mesh-based water surface. The caustic pattern tracks the surface shape and moves with the water, similar to realistic light patterns. The add-on is available here.
Earlier, Jeremy White showed plenty of fantastic works with water visualizations, such as this elephant in water simulation, a real-time shark attack sim, and more:
