Awesome Curly Hair Simulation Set Up in Houdini

Jan Hebein is experimenting with some curls.

3D artist Jan Hebein has presented his latest curly hair simulation test set up in Houdini.

The artist made the hair using the GroomBear toolkit, then added different constraints to keep the shape, and simulated it all with Vellum. He says the simulation took just around a minute. 

There are two types of curls in the setup and more variations are to come along with different constraint clusters to create a more natural look. 

Houdini is a fascinating software capable of fantastic things. You can simulate rivers, waterfalls, fibers, oceans, sparkling water, beaches, and much more once you master it. Hopefully, these 80 Level Digests will help you with this task:
