Blender Studio has opened the doors to its upcoming animated project OVERGROWN, temporarily making the production’s behind-the-scenes articles and educational material available to everyone for free.

The limited-time Open Doors Week gives Blender artists an opportunity to examine how the project’s forthcoming teaser was assembled across several months of production. Its six production logs document the process from early development through animation, shading, lighting, effects, music, and final compositing.

The material covers the project’s character rigs and fur setup, voice casting, set construction, handcrafted shading details, shot animation, and final visual development. One log concentrates on the treatment of water, including lighting and dripping effects, while the final entry explores the composition of the score and development of the finished composite.

Blender Studio has also made Simon Thommes’ Painterly Shadows masterclass freely accessible. The lesson examines the stylized shadow techniques used to support OVERGROWN’s distinctive illustrated appearance.

The studio is preparing to release the project’s teaser but describes OVERGROWN as a potential feature film rather than simply another completed Blender Open Movie. Its current production phase has been used to develop the concept, test its visual direction, and create reusable knowledge for the wider Blender community.

Open Doors Week also forms part of Blender Studio’s effort to attract additional supporters. The team says it has not yet reached its target of 7,000 subscribers, which it needs to move OVERGROWN into its next stage. Subscriptions fund Blender Studio’s productions, training material, downloadable assets, and work that contributes to Blender’s continuing development.
