Bloomberg: Apple Is Working on Its Own ChatGPT

It is available for internal use for now.

While OpenAI's ChatGPT and Google's Bard are revolutionizing technology, Apple seems strangely absent from all of this despite rolling out AI features for its systems. But it's not exactly true, apparently.

According to Bloomberg, Apple is working on its own ChatGPT-like tool. It has built its own framework to create large language models (LLMs) and created a chatbot that some employees call Apple GPT.

It seems like Apple is worried it will miss the last train to this wonderful world of generative AI and has decided to explore it privately so far. Bloomberg says the chatbot was created as an experiment at the end of last year by a small team that has been expanded since then. The catch is whatever you get from it can’t be used to develop features bound for customers yet, so the employees use it to help with product prototyping. "It also summarizes text and answers questions based on data it has been trained with."

Insiders say this AI Apple tool is web-based and replicates Bard, ChatGPT, and Bing AI without adding any new features. It doesn't have a user-friendly design, so the company is not planning to release it to consumers for now.

Apple is reportedly busy with other AI initiatives, and some believe it wants to make a "significant AI-related announcement" next year.

However, now it needs to figure out how to approach several important issues: security and copyright. The first is significant as Apple was one of the companies that restricted usage of ChatGPT due to a data leak. At the same time, the company hopefully doesn't want to step into the field without offering ethical AI training – using only approved data without essentially stealing intellectual property.
