Brunch Studio Reveals How They Made the Valorant: Through The Cracks Cinematic Trailer

Valorant: Through The Cracks is a trailer reveal for Summit, the new VALORANT map that follows the events of Why We Fight Back.

Brunch Studio shared a series of breakdowns of the Valorant: Through the Cracks cinematic trailer presented by Riot Games back in June. The trailer reveals a new VALORANT map – Summit.

Summit is a training facility high up in the mountains of China. There, Sage tries to recover from the injuries following the events of Why We Fight Back. However, the wounds from Viper's relentless attacks take over Sage's body, forcing her to confront the radianite serpent to stop the painful crystallization of her body from spreading further.

The stunning cinematic trailer was directed by Paul-Eugène Dannaud and Benoît de Geyer d'Orth of Turbo Collectif. The team used Maya for sculpting and animation. VFX for the scenes were made with Houdini.

In the trailer, you can see how the core shots of the sequence went from a rough concept sketch to a pre-rendered Maya animation to a mesmerizing final render with glowing emerald crystal materials. Compared to the original sketches, for instance, the final version of the serpent has a wider, more rounded head. Sage herself has more crystal-shaped scales on her skin, compared to what was outlined initially.
