Check Out This Cool Animation of a Very Expressive but Faceless Creature

I want to pet it.

Anshul Katkar, Character Animator and Rigging Artist, shared on his LinkedIn profile a character animation he did of a fantasy-like creature.

He explained that he wanted to achieve an expressive creature that could rely only on body language to communicate its personality, because it doesn't have a face.

The artist explained that he used references from both birds and quadrupeds, blending their elements to create something that could feel natural and unique.

The animation shows the creature getting close to a blue clock, and when he touches it, an alarm goes off, and the creature gets scared. What I can imagine for the lack of facial features is that it hears the clock by echolocation.

I think it's a creature you could see in a fantasy or sci-fi game, where you can create bonds with it. The artist shared that the rig was made by Mrinal Soni, and it was modeled and textured by Uandi Turner.

Check out other projects made by him, like this short animation that earned the artist a place in the top 3 of the November 11 Second Club challenge.

Check out other projects related to birds that we have shared in the past, like this 3D model that looks like a traditional painting, made by Zhihao Yao, or Marco Lombardi's war machine that was based on a chick.
