Check Out This Painterly Life is Strange-Style 3D Animation of an Audio Cassette Player
Alexandra Mallinson shared her painterly prop piece inspired by retro technology.
Alexandra Mallinson shared a cool, painterly 3D prop animation of an audio cassette player, which is a twist on retro technology. The artist's stylized pocket player has two cassette slots, while real-life portable pocket players and recorders only had enough space for one cassette.
Regardless, the piece looks similar to Toshiba's Stereo Walky pocket cassette player with a touch of Fisher-Price Pocket Rockers, famous for their abstract, colorful design. The transparent red plastic is reminiscent of the modern reimagination of the classic piece of tech from TOMASHI.

Mallinson did prop modelling in Maya and then used Blender for both texturing and compositing. The jittery Grease Pencil stroke effect looks a lot like Alberto Mielgo's art for Love, Death + Robots' third episode, The Witness, where similar painterly doodles appear on the characters' bodies, clothes, and other objects in the scene.
