The boost is connected to the Edgerunners anime and the latest patch.
According to SteamDB, Cyberpunk 2077 saw the highest number of concurrent players on Steam since the game's release in 2020: the current 24-hour peak is 85,555 people. The newfound interest in the game should be attributed to the Edgerunners anime and the 1.6 patch, both were released recently.
The 10-episode anime Edgerunners tells the story of a street kid David trying to survive in Night City. Having everything to lose, he stays alive by becoming an edgerunner – a mercenary outlaw also known as a cyberpunk.
The anime was received extremely well, and even the universe's creator Mike Pondsmith said the makers "nailed it."
At the same time, the newest patch to Cyberpunk 2077 introduces new weapons, missions, and secrets linked to Edgerunners, as well as exciting features, like transmog, which allows you to customize your outfits slot by slot without changing their stats.
CD PROJEKT RED also teased Phantom Liberty – a spy-thriller expansion set in a new district of Night City, where V takes an oath to the United States of America. The new content is coming in 2023.
