More about the show

The second season of the anime series set in CD Projekt Red's Cyberpunk 2077's Night City, Cyberpunk: Edgerunners 2, created by CDPR and the Japanese animation studio TRIGGER, premiered on Netflix on October 20. All ten episodes are currently available on the streaming platform.

Additionally, CD PROJEKT RED announced the Edgerunners 2 Update, also known as Update 2.5, for Cyberpunk 2077, featuring content inspired by the anime and other new items and features. The update is set to launch on October 22 on PC, PlayStation 5, and XBOX Series S|X, with the Nintendo Switch 2 release planned in the near future.

The first season of Cyberpunk: Edgerunners streamed on Netflix in 2022, and the follow-up story was announced last year. The teaser for season 2 and the premiere date teaser trailer shared a glimpse of the show's characters and narrative, which follows Roman Carax, a young fan of old movies, and Talia Yang, a member of the cyberware-loving Maelstrom gang. The new season is a standalone narrative, and you don't need to watch season 1 to understand the plot.

The reception has been positive, with reviewers noting the emotional and touching story and highlighting that the new season focuses on multiple characters and their intertwined stories. For example, Mashable calls the story "a beautiful reminder of what makes us human" and praises the series' emotional side, retro aesthetic, and the show's creators paying homage to traditional filmmaking. IGN points to a constant shift in art style and a newly defined aesthetic that differs from Season 1.

Cyberpunk: Edgerunners 2 is helmed by Kai Ikarashi, and Kanno Ichigo is the lead character designer. Masahiko Otsuka and Hugo Award winner Bartosz Sztybor, who is a showrunner, story writer, and producer, return as collaborators. The show's creators previously shared how they preserved the overall tone and made the new narrative original, and also discussed introducing a new child lead.
