Fallout 1 & 2 Remakes Might Not Come Anytime Soon

"As long as you can download it, as long as it loads up and runs, I'd like people to experience it the way it was.”

Bethesda Softworks

The Fallout IP is currently at the peak of its popularity, thanks in part to the TV show on Amazon, a fact acknowledged by Bethesda's boss, Todd Howard. As a result, new players introduced to the Fallout world through the TV show, along with long-time fans who've been playing since the original game, have been hoping that Bethesda might remake the first two games in the series. However, this hope, along with the desire for a new main Fallout game, might not be realized anytime soon.

In an interview with YouTuber MrMattyPlays, Howard discussed the future plans for the Fallout franchise, including potential remakes of the first two games, which are over 25 years old. His response might disappoint those hoping for a remake, as he said:

“We want it to load up and run well. The rest of it, I could argue some of the charm of games from that era and the original Fallouts is a little bit of that age. I would never want to paste over some of that with, well we changed how this works so it's more modern. So as long as you can download it, as long as it loads up and runs, I'd like people to experience it the way it was.” (thanks, IGN)

Obviously, for the developer, the priority is ensuring the games are available and playable, and it's important that they function properly. Well, perhaps he's right to some extent. Games with nostalgic graphics do have their own charm, and they're authentic as they stand.
